The Tasmanian Masters Weekend is back and continuing to solidify itself as a staple event of the beach season and a traditional compeition loved by all!
We will be hosting two competitions on the weekend, Mixed pairs on Saturday 24 January and Men’s/Women’s pairs on the Sunday 25 January.
Note: Registration for each competition has been set at $50 which allows for independent referees for all courts so players do not need to duty themselves.
Format for the competition is proposed as follows:
Mixed Pairs
Standard masters format with age categories of 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+ and 60+
Men's/Women's Pairs
TBC but it is likely we will continue with the "dinosaur" format (based off the Hawaii Dinosaur Tournament) which uses combined ages rather than traditional age categories but with a slight rework from the 2024-25 competition.
Two current age categories are proposed in each division (age taken as of the 31st December 2026):
80s - min. combined age of 80 years e.g. 2x 40yo or 50yo + 30yo are both valid partnerships
100s - min. combined age of 100 years e.g. 2x 50yo or 60yo + 40yo are both valid partnerships
Confirmation of this format and whether we need to combine age categories with score handicaps, etc will be finalised based on the numbers showing interest in the competitions. For example, score handicap could be 1 full point for every year a team is older than their opponents up to a maximum of 5 or 8 points. TBD but Rules for this competition could also be "Old School". Oldest team will "win" the toss and get their choice of side or serve.
