The social Twilight Beach Series is on again for the 2025-26 beach season.

The slightly different format is as per below:

Format:

Division 1 ($150 per team): Mixed 3's (minimum 1 female)

Division 2 ($200 per team): Mixed 4's (minimum 2 females) [Teams of 3 will also be accepted with a minimum of 2 females or at Tournament Director's discretion, 2 males]

!NEW! Division 3 ($200 per team): Mixed 4's (minimum 2 females) [Teams of 3 will also be accepted with a minimum of 2 females or at Tournament Director's discretion, 2 males]. This new ivision is perfect for teams with low beach volleyball experience but keen to give it a go.

The season fixture is proposed to fit in seamlessly with Southern League and will run every Monday from 8th December 2025 to 22nd December 2025 and then resuming every Monday from 5th January 2026 to 2/9 February 2026 (8-9 playing weeks pending 2025 Southern League confirmation).

There will be no games scheduled on Monday 26 January (Public Holiday) and games on Monday 9 February will be based on whether teams are intereseted in playing one additional week (could become th finals week) and committed to it.

Games will start as close to 6pm as possible (6:30pm at the latest) and aim to finish by 8:30pm. Games are 3 compulsory sets, all played to 15 points (must win by 2 points) except finals). Each week, teams will play 2 games and referee/score 1 other on an assigned court.

Fill-in players are allowed but players need to play a minimum of 50% of the season games to be eligible for finals (an exemption may be granted due to unforeseen circumstances). If a 4-player team is short one female and cannot find a fill-in in time, an exception to the minimum 2 female rule may be allowed on a case by case basis.

Please ensure you enter your team members when registering as this will allow us to work around the Southern League Finals if required.

Get your teams together, register and get excited for heaps of beach!

Payment will need to be made prior to taking the beach and can be done for the team during registration (Fees Apply) or by transferring the required payment amount (either total team amount or each player individually) to the following bank details, referencing the invoice received:

Players also need to be registered with Volleyball Tasmania to play. If you are a current VTas member (you typically will be if you've been playing indoor), you are already covered.

If you are not a current VTas member, you will need to purchase a Beach membership ($40) which covers the entire beach season (competitions as well) and expires on 31st March 2026. You can do this by heading to the following link: https://www.volleyballtasmania.com.au/rego/start?membership=455568 and following the registration process.

Rule Clarity:
Sky ball or left hand serve on set point is encouraged but not mandatory!

Division 1
- Plays in accordance with the FIVB Beach Volleyball rules.
- In general, there are no rules on who has to touch the ball but if the referee sees that someone is being excluded it is at their discretion to bring this rule in to the game to ensure fair play.

Division 2 and Division 3
- Plays in accordance with the FIVB Beach Volleyball rules with more leniency
   - First touch should not be set unless clean, players are encouraged to use beach volleyball overhand alternatives (hand overlap, tomahawk, etc) to play the first ball
   - Second touch sets should be more lenient and typically let go if it stays on the players side and the intent is to set a teammate. This allows new and inexperienced players, a chance to learn and practice their beach sets. If it crosses the net causing a disadvantage to the opponent it should be called (unless legitimate)
   - Third ball should not be tipped or set (unless clean and in line with shoulders). Players are encouraged to hit, roll or use alternatives to tipping (knuckles, straight finger pokey, backhand, etc)
