Hobart was formerly the only centre conducting competitive volleyball in the State. The Southern Tasmanian Volleyball Association is in the process of rebuilding this season as the lack of interest and new players had brought roster games to an end.

There are two top A Grade teams they being Hobart Stars and Hobart Y.M.C.A. each of whom have been Tasmanian Champions in 1966 and 1967 respectively. Members of these teams have formed the administrative body and are now recruiting and coaching new players. It is envisaged that an official B Grade roster comprised of at least 6 teams will come into operation at the beginning of 1968.

The S.T.V.A. has also taken the initiative in organising volleyball for schoolboys in the hope that this will help provide a source of senior players in the future. A number of High Schools in the Hobart area are fielding teams in this roster.

A number of womens teams have also shown interest in playing the sport and coaching and a roster are being organised for them.

A number of top players in the south are :- Gunars Zodins, Ervins Miezitis, Ivars Parums, John Zodins, Tony Andrikonis, John, Peter and Eilef Straatsma and Rod Scott.
